KNOW WHAT'S IN YOUR PAN
You cook with love.
Your pan should too.
PFAS-free cookware isn't a trend. It's a choice to protect the people you feed — made possible without compromising on performance or beauty.
Shop PFAS-Free Cookware →Most of us never gave a second thought to the pan sitting on the stovetop. We chose it because it looked good, because someone recommended it, because it was on sale. We heated it up, cooked dinner, fed our families — and moved on.
But lately, more Australians are pausing and asking a different question:
"What's actually in that coating — and is it safe for my family?"
That's not anxiety. That's good parenting. And it led a lot of us — including the people who founded Neoflam Australia — to learn about something called PFAS.
So — what exactly is PFAS?
PFAS stands for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances — a large family of synthetic chemicals that have been used in manufacturing since the 1940s. You'll find them in everything from waterproof jackets to food packaging. And for decades, they were widely used in non-stick cookware coatings.
The reason they're called "forever chemicals" is straightforward: they don't break down. Not in the environment. Not in your body. Once they're in, they accumulate.
Researchers and health bodies around the world have been increasingly focused on PFAS since studies began linking long-term exposure to a range of health concerns. Regulators in the US, EU, and Australia are taking it seriously. And everyday Australians are taking notice.
Man-Made
PFAS chemicals are entirely synthetic. They don't exist in nature — they were engineered for industrial use and found their way into everyday products.
They Don't Break Down
"Forever chemicals" because they persist in the environment for thousands of years and accumulate in the body over time with repeated exposure.
Found in Kitchens
Many traditional non-stick coatings use PFAS-based compounds. When overheated or scratched, these coatings can degrade and release compounds into food and air.
What does this mean for your kitchen?
Most conventional non-stick pans use coatings in the PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) family — more commonly known by a well-known brand name. PTFE is itself a type of PFAS compound. At high temperatures, these coatings can begin to break down and off-gas compounds that have raised concerns among health researchers.
The more important concern is physical degradation: a scratched, chipped, or worn non-stick pan can release particles directly into food. Most Australians are cooking on pans well past the point where their coating is considered safe.
We're not trying to alarm you. We just think you deserve to know what's happening on the surface of the cookware you use every single day — so you can make a better choice.
The good news?
You don't have to choose between non-stick convenience and your family's wellbeing. Neoflam's Ecolon™ ceramic coating gives you the performance of non-stick — with none of the PFAS, PTFE, PFOA, lead, or cadmium. It's been that way since our very first pan.
HOW WE'RE DIFFERENT
PFAS-free from day one — not as an afterthought.
Neoflam wasn't reformulated to remove PFAS. We never used them. Our Ecolon™ ceramic coating was built from the ground up using natural silica — essentially, sand — bonded at a molecular level to create a smooth, incredibly durable non-stick surface.
It was a founding decision made by three Australian parents in Mullumbimby who believed — and still believe — that what you cook in matters as much as what you cook with.

Questions people ask us
Is all Neoflam cookware PFAS-free?
Yes — every Neoflam product with Ecolon™ coating is 100% free from PFAS, PTFE, PFOA, lead, and cadmium. Our ceramic coating is made from natural silica and has been PFAS-free since the very first Neoflam pan was made.
Is PFAS-free the same as PTFE-free?
PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) is itself a type of PFAS compound. So yes — if a cookware is PFAS-free, it's also PTFE-free. Neoflam's Ecolon™ coating contains neither.
Is ceramic non-stick as good as traditional non-stick?
When cared for properly, Ecolon™ ceramic non-stick performs beautifully — eggs slide, fish doesn't stick, cleanup takes seconds. The key is low-to-medium heat and gentle utensils. Avoid metal tools and dishwashers for best longevity.
What should I do with my old non-stick pans?
If your pan's coating is scratched, chipped, or peeling — it's time to replace it. For disposal, check with your local council for metal recycling options.
Does Neoflam ship across Australia?
Yes — we ship Australia-wide with fast dispatch from our NSW base. Check our shipping page for current thresholds and delivery times.
